Charles Hickman and wife Caroline and moved to Lake Waccamaw in 2000
and fairly soon figured out that the closest place to buy bait,
tackle or boating supplies was at least fifteen miles away. So, in
2003 with absolutely no idea about how to operate a business, a few
thousand dollars, a very helpful and knowledgeable salesman from Big
Rock Sports and a lot of determination, Waccamaw Outdoor Supply
opened its doors.
Since our meager beginnings, the business has grown tremendously and
now is housed in a 7500 square foot facility located at 104 Top
Tobacco Road in Lake Waccamaw, NC. It is home to both Waccamaw
Outdoors, Inc. and Waccamaw Speedy Mart, Inc. and is easily accessed
from I-74 (future) Highway 74-76 between mile marker 252 and 253.
The
outdoor store inventory includes over handguns and long guns
and the shelves are loaded with plenty of ammo and accessories. The
boating and fishing tackle inventory consists of the items used by
locals in Lake Waccamaw and the surrounding rivers as well as some salt
water tackle and gear. Whether you want to catch fresh water or
saltwater fish, we can show you what you need to make it happen.
We also have certified armorers on
staff and can service all of your firearms. Our service department
is trained and qualified to handle almost any repair required for
your firearms. The store is decorated with
taxidermy displays, old guns and many other items that pertain to
outdoor life. The numerous mounts all through the store are on loan
from customers, many of whom have run out of room at home for any
more mounts. Animals are added and taken out regularly so don't
forget to check out the walls on each visit. You never know what
might show up.
Waccamaw Speedy Mart in association with Sunoco is one of the few
convenience stores visible from Interstate 74 (future) highway 74-76
between Delco and Rockingham. The Speedy Mart offers all the typical
convenience store items and has a grill that opens at 5AM and offers
breakfast and lunch 7 days a week. Of course, gasoline and highway
diesel is available with easy access from all directions and Sunoco
is the Official Fuel of NASCAR.
